Thin section of the Kuźnica meteorite (H5)
Meteorite Kuźnica
The Kuźnica meteorite was accidentally found in September 2008. A single stone weighs 2,143 g. It is classified as an ordinary chondrite, type H5, shock stage S1, weathering level W1.
According to the publication by Karwowski i in. (2021), the Kuźnica meteorite contains:
- olivine and pyroxene 71.9% vol (fayalite 18.78% mol, ferrosilite 16.47% mol)
- feldspar 11.2% vol
- Fe-Ni metal 7.0% vol (nickel: 5.83 to 6.90% weight in kamacite)
- troilite 4.2% vol
This thin section is owned by Jan Woreczko and was scanned on August 21, 2025, using a Keyence VHX-7000 polarizing microscope in both plane- and cross-polarized modes at the Department of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Petrology, University of Warsaw, Poland.
